CLASSIFICATION OF HOTELS

There is no exact classification for hotels. However, hotels are classified on the basis of the services they offer, number and type rooms they hold, area of location and much many factors. Here are following basis of classification.On the basis of location, hotel can be classified under following headings.
  1. Downtown: These hotels are situated at the heart of the city; basically designed to cater short stay business clients. The hotels are very expensive as the start up costs are very high. Hotel Vaishali is an example of down town hotel in Kathmandu.
  2. Resorts: Eco-friendly commercial hotels, basically designed for long stay guests situated in hill stations, where the natural beauty has its significance. In European community, Resorts are seasonally operated catering establishments. Resort provides all the facilities as offered by a star category hotel. Godavari village resort in Godavari, Lalitpur is an example.
  3. Transit/transient Hotels: The transient hotels are usually located in transit locations such as air port, railway stations, bus stations, harbors or ports, etc. to cater the passengers. Airport hotel is an example of transit hotels.
  4. Motels: The word motel is derived from two interrelated words "motor and hotel" from America. Motels are the hotels situated on the highways having fueling and parking facilities along with food and shelter.
  5. Suburban Hotels: Suburban hotels are located away from the city centers have the advantage of quieter surroundings and the rates quoted are moderate to low. Such hotels are ideal for budget travelers and also the quiet seeking organization for their conferences and seminars. Hotel Hyatt in Kathmandu is an example of suburban hotel.
